Who Is This Guy

My name is Benjamin Hirsch.  I was born on Staten Island in the state of New York on April 2nd, 1975 to my father Gary and mother Louise.  I don’t remember much from New York as we moved when I was only 1 and landed in Sioux City, Iowa.  I don’t have much recollection of Iowa either, except for a few short bits that include our house having bats on the top floor that my sisters would attempt to ‘broom’ out of the house when one of us was unlucky enough to leave the attic door open (it was a big house).  Also, I remember once when a tornado came really close to our house (accross some nearby river), and we had hail the size of ping pong balls (everyone else’s is always golf sized).  But, beyond that?  I don’t remember much.  I bet my sister’s Barbara, Phoebe, and Melyssa remember more than I do.  At some point, I should ask them about it.

Eventually, we ended up in Eastern washington, more specifically, in Kennewick.  There, I start to have quite a few more memories.  I remember the neighbor kids which had small slow dirt bikes with lawn mower engines.  I remember the horses we had, and all of the land since we were kind of out toward the edge of town.  I remember some of the strange neighbors, one in particular whose passion was killing and collecting rattlesnakes, and their skins.  I remember riding along in my dad’s light blue 1979 Mercury Marquis, and he always played his Journey tape all the time, … “Send her my Love” is engrained into me, not by choice.  I remember the time I was riding bikes down our long gravel driveway with a friend, I yelled to them to get their attention, they stopped suddenly, I slammed into them, I was wearing shorts, and I ended up with gravel embedded in my legs (something you remember).  I remember building a snowman because eastern Washington received a lot of snow in the winter.

<….more to come…>

My father worked on the electrical systems of the nuclear power plant they were building there.

When I was six years old (or thereabouts), my parents divorced, and my sister Melyssa and I went to live with my father in the Pacific Northwest (of Washington), in Olympia, where my life mostly normalized (I went from 3rd grade all the way through high school, and to some community college there).  At least, I thought it did.  Thinking back, it’s extremely odd that I ended up with my Father (over my Mother, knowing what it takes for a dad to win Custoday now with Cassidy).

I think your dad fought for custody because he wanted you to have a better life than you would have had had you stayed with your mom, and because he was willing to be a single parent if that’s what it took.

Excellent information provided by Ben for those that want to avoid the ridiculous prices charged by dealers for routine maintenance on what is the ultimate driving machine. As a e36 owner
this type of DYI information is fantastic and guys with the right tools anything can be done to these cars avoiding the “stealer’s” I mean dealer and unethical mechanic shops that charge by logo more than ‘WORK”.
